Last week, a pivotal moment in the fight for life was thwarted when the HB 234 – Medical Care for All Infants Born Alive bill was pulled from the schedule of the New Mexico House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee. This vital piece of legislation, championed by the New Mexico Alliance for Life (NMAFL), is designed to ensure that every infant born alive, particularly those who survive abortion procedures, receives the urgent medical care they deserve.
STAY TUNED FOR AN URGENT ANNOUNCEMENT NEXT WEEK! PARTNER WITH US TODAY: MAKE A $500, $250 OR $50 DONATION HERE. Last Thursday, the bill appeared as item 8 on the agenda, but only 6 bills were heard that day. Presumably, the bill should have been re-scheduled for subsequent committee hearings THIS WEEK, but it has been REMOVED or “rolled’ from the schedule entirely. “This isn’t about abortion—it’s about saving babies who survive it. If one life matters, as we heard during Covid, then this is a human rights fight we can’t ignore,” said New Mexico State Representative Stefani Lord.”Not only should this bill be passed, but at the very least rescheduled for a hearing.” “Radical pro-abortion Democrats in the legislature, bought and paid for by the abortion lobby are afraid of taking a vote on this critical, life-saving legislation because of overwhelming evidence obtained by New Mexico Alliance for Life that proves this is happening in our own backyard,” said Elisa Martinez executive director of NMAFL. “It’s absolutely unconscionable and outright evil that innocent babies who survive abortions are being left to die or worse.” Read more below, see University of New Mexico Hospital policy leaving newborn infants who survive abortions to die. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW: The bill was first introduced in 2016 after a New Mexico Alliance for Life investigation obtained a shocking late-term abortion policy from the University of New Mexico Hospital that indicates newborns may show signs of life. The policy discusses the inhumane abortion procedure after 22 weeks: “the intent is to prevent the delivery of a live-born neonate.” It also explicitly states, “we discuss the possibility that the intended abortus may be born with signs of life,” (see actual policy below). NMAFL shared these shocking revelations with the congressional Select Panel on Infant Lives that also found abortionists in New Mexico were not checking for signs of life or worse–ignoring them (read more here about our investigation).
