Learn to Fish!

If you’ve always wanted to learn how to fish but haven’t had the chance, the New Mexico Department of Game & Fish can help!

The Department will host two adult Coldwater Fishing Workshops this month – one on Oct. 19 in Albuquerque, and the other on Oct. 26 in Las Cruces. Participants will learn all about how to identify fish, fishing techniques, equipment and gear, knot-tying, casting, and rules & regulations.

For more information, contact the Department’s R-3 Program Manager, John Martsh, at d.martsh@dgf.nm.gov or 505-222-4719.

Give Quail Hunting a Try!

Never been hunting before? Want to try something new? The Department is partnering with the Safari Club International Foundation for a beginner adult quail hunting camp to help you get started!

The camp is scheduled to take place Nov. 21-23 at Rockhound State Park in Deming, and instruction, gear and meals will be provided. The camp is open to adults age 18 and older with little or no hunting experience, as well as those who have never hunted quail before. Participants will learn about how to identify quail, rules and regulations, hunter safety, clay target shooting, quail-hunting techniques and how to field-dress quail.

Campers will need to provide their own hunting licenses, a tent or wheeled camper, a sleeping bag and sleeping pad. They are also encouraged to bring their own shotgun (12- or 20-gauge). Registrants will be emailed a link for a mandatory Zoom orientation that will take place Nov. 17 at 6 p.m.

Click here to register (note: this link will not be active until 8 a.m. Nov. 3)

Registration will remain open until the camp is full. Please do not register if you have attended this camp in previous years.

Get Involved!

Come make your voice heard! The New Mexico State Game Commission will meet Friday, Nov. 7, at the Fuller Lodge (2132 Central Ave., Los Alamos).
