Take Action: Tell the WNBA to Keep Women’s Sports for Women

The WNBA exists for a reason.

If biological sex didn’t matter in sports, there would be no need for a Women’s National Basketball Association in the first place.

Female athletes deserve a league of their own. And they deserve the freedom to say so.

Indiana Fever player Sophie Cunningham has been willing to do just that, publicly standing up for women and girls and saying biological males should not compete in women’s sports.

The backlash followed quickly. Cunningham has faced criticism and boos, while others within the WNBA have publicly pushed back against her position. Even Cunningham’s own coach declined to say that biological males should be excluded from the WNBA when directly asked.

But female athletes should not have to stay silent to protect their careers. And saying that women’s sports should be for women should not be controversial.

That’s why we need your voice.

Family Policy Alliance and our network of state Family Policy Councils have been fighting to Save Girls’ Sports across the country. Today, 27 states have laws protecting fairness in girls’ sports.

Now, that same principle needs to be defended at the highest level of women’s basketball.

By signing you’re calling on the WNBA to adopt a clear policy reserving competition for female athletes and affirm the right of players like Sophie Cunningham to speak in defense of women’s sports without fear of retaliation.

Girls and women deserve fair competition at every level, from their first game to the highest levels of professional sports.

Will you stand with them?
