Somos Un Pueblo Unido Launches SOMOS FUTURO to Connect Spanish-speaking Immigrant New Mexicans With Education, Job Training and Economic Opportunities

Somos Un Pueblo Unido today announced the launch of SOMOS Futuro, a new Spanish-language online platform connecting New Mexico’s immigrant workers with skills building, job training, financial assistance, and other opportunities to build a stronger future.

Available at www.somos-futuro.com, the platform brings resources together in one accessible place and helps families navigate programs that can often be difficult to find or understand.

SOMOS FUTURO is the result of years of immigrant-led organizing. For more than 30 years, Somos members have mobilized to expand access to education and economic opportunity. In 2005, Somos coordinated the statewide campaign that won Senate Bill 582, expanding access to in-state tuition and state financial aid for qualifying immigrant youth. Since then, members have continued organizing for high wages and benefits, adult education, workforce training, English and high school equivalency programs, and financial support for working families.

Somos created SOMOS FUTURO to make sure communities can access information about workforce development opportunities in one place.

The launch comes as some of those victories face renewed attacks. On August 27, the U.S. Department of Justice filed a lawsuit challenging New Mexico laws that provide qualifying immigrant students access to reduced tuition rates and and financial assistance.

“For decades, immigrant workers and families have organized to ensure immigration status does not determine who gets to build a future in New Mexico,” said Marcela Díaz, Executive Director of Somos Un Pueblo Unido. “We won these opportunities through collective action, and we will continue organizing to protect them and make sure our communities can use them to support our families and local economies.”

SOMOS FUTURO connects New Mexicans with adult education, English classes, high school equivalency programs, career training, certificates, financial assistance, and other opportunities across the state—turning hard-won rights into real pathways forward.

Our communities fought for these opportunities, and we are not going backwards.
