Mayor Webber Launches Eight Transition Advisory Working Groups

Meetings kick off this week with goal to deliver short-term action items that can be implemented within a year

Santa Fe, NM – Mayor Alan Webber’s transition team is organizing eight Advisory Working Groups, each focused on a different piece of making Santa Fe the most user-friendly, eco-friendly, and family-friendly city in America.

The groups will begin meeting this week, with the goal of delivering a list of action items that can be implemented within the next 6-12 months and a memo for the public outlining their ideas. The action items and memos are expected within 90 days.

Mayor Webber said, “The way our election works, there isn’t a transition process before the Mayor takes office. But there is still a need for work to be done to come up with immediate, actionable items that will make a real impact on our community.”

The Advisory Working Groups are as follows:

 

1.     Advancing Sustainability:Ways for the City to promote advanced water conservation in the face of drought and climate change, promote innovation in wastewater and solid waste services, advance our investment in clean energy, and support locally produced food and agriculture.

2.     Catalyzing Jobs: Ways to promote existing Santa Fe businesses and industries, to diversify the economy, and to support higher-wage employment opportunities.

3.     Supporting Education: Steps the City can take to partner more effectively with Santa Fe Public Schools, Santa Fe Community College, and other Santa Fe educational institutions; ways we can support early childhood education, wrap-around services for pre-K-12 students, and higher education.

4.     Unifying Santa Fe: Measures the City can take to unify Santa Fe, create equitable and fair investments and programs for every part of the City, and foster real inclusion for all Santa Feans.

5.     Advancing Housing & Livable Neighborhoods: Steps the City can take across the housing continuum to address our already-identified housing crisis and to create strong, healthy and livable neighborhoods.

6.     Delivering Public Safety:Measures the City can take to enhance and promote excellent relations between the community and the Santa Fe Police Department, continued responsiveness and a commitment to community policing in the Santa Fire Department, and resilience in Emergency Services.

7.     Planning for Financial Contingencies: Steps the City can take to prepare for serious economic and financial disruptions.

8.     Supporting Young Santa Fe: Measures the City can take to, keep and attract young people to put down roots in Santa Fe, live in City neighborhoods and build their careers, or their companies, in the community.
