Notice of Public Hearing for BuRRT Solid Waste Facility Permit Application

By The Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency

The New Mexico Environment Department will hold a public hearing on Thursday, April 13th, at 5:00 p.m. to consider the matter of the permit application by the Santa Fe Solid Waste Management Agency for renewal and modification of the Buckman Road Recycling and Transfer Station permit. The hearing will take place at Aspen Community Magnet School (gymnasium), 450 La Madera in Santa Fe. Public comment will be taken starting at 5:00 p.m. and may continue on the following day(s) if determined necessary by the Hearing Officer.   In lieu of verbal public comments, written statements may be submitted for the record at the hearing or prior to the hearing.

The Agency is seeking to renew the existing solid waste facility permit and obtain a permit modification for small addition of land to the existing facility. The existing permit was issued in May 1996. If approved, the start-up date for the permit modification will be the date of permit application approval.

The Agency submitted the permit application to the Environment Department on May 8, 2015. The Environment Department reviewed and deemed the application complete on January 12, 2017. The Secretary of the Environment Department considers all public comments, including issues relating to public health and welfare, in his decision to issue the permit, issue the permit with conditions, or deny the permit.

The permit application can be reviewed at the Environment Department, Solid Waste Bureau, 1190 South Francis Drive, Suite N-2150, Santa Fe from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. For more information or questions about the permit application, contact George Schuman at the Environment Department at (505) 827-2328.

The Agency operates both BuRRT and the Caja del Rio Landfill. The Agency facilities provide a safe and environmentally responsible way for residents and businesses to dispose of their waste and recyclables. Please call 424-1850 x 410 with any questions you might have.
