NMAA BOARD SUMMARY

Busy, busy, busy, that’s one of the main words pieced together by the New Mexico Activities Association.
 
Dateline Albuquerque, the Association’s Board of Directors conducted their regular session Wednesday in the NMAA Hall of Pride and Honor.
 
Executive director Sally Marquez gave her director’s report that included a welcome to the newest board members, information 
on the upcoming winter athletic championships, an update on the NMAA foundation scholarship program, and details about legislative activity that could impact the NMAA. 
 
Business manager Shari Kessler-Schwaner presented the NMAA financial report that included reports and ticket sales numbers from the 2022 fall athletic championships. 
 
Assistant director Tammy Richards presented the NMAA activities report that included information regarding the recent state bowling, chess, and student council events, and participation numbers within activity programs, upcoming activity state events, the calendar for future school years, and an update on the NMAA foundation’s fundraising initiatives. 
 
Commissioner of Officials Zac Stevenson presented the New Mexico officials association report that included information regarding officials for the upcoming winter athletic championships, sports officials curriculum updates, the recent NFHS officials consortium, the NFL/FHS grassroots program, the recent NMOA board meeting, and an update on the 2023 NMOA state clinic. 
 
Sally Marquez presented six discussion items that included information regarding a new summer awards banquet, classification and alignment, sportsmanship, appeals/hardships, amateurism/NIL, and facilities for the 2023 baseball championships.
 
Assoicate director Dusty Young presented a couple of discussion items pertaining state football playoff sites and NFHS football equipment regulations. 
The board of directors also took action on the following item, voting in favor of a proposal to add student eligibility bylaws pertaining to specialized sports training academies. 
 
The next board of directors meeting is scheduled for June 1, 2023
