Santa Fe National Forest Waives Recreation Fees for Presidents Day

February 17, 2023: The Santa Fe National Forest (SFNF) will waive fees at day-use recreation sites on Monday, Feb. 20, 2021, to celebrate Presidents Day.
All SFNF offices will be closed Monday for the federal holiday, resuming normal business hours on Tuesday, Feb. 21.
The Forest Service participates in fee-free days with other federal agencies to encourage Americans to recreation sites that are open in the winter, as well as, encouraging visitors to check the status or contact the appropriate ranger district office to determine which sites are open.
Know Before You Go: You are responsible for your own safety and for the safety of those around you. Below are few recommended good habits. If you are venturing into the backcountry, take safety seriously and follow these recommendations:
• Let someone know where you’re going and when you expect to return.
• Bring a map and a compass and learn how to use them to navigate. Don’t rely only on your cell phone
for navigation.
• Bring a first-aid kit with you in case of emergencies.
• Bring plenty of water for you and everyone in your group, including pets. Remember to take frequent breaks during hot weather.
• If traveling with pets do not leave them unattended in your car.
• Wear good hiking shoes and appropriate clothing for the season.

The remaining fee free days for 2023 are: National Get Outdoors Day: June 10, 2023; National Public Lands Day: Sept. 23, 2023, and Veterans Day: Nov. 11, 2023

Stay up to date on Santa Fe National Forest activities via the SFNF website and following the forest on Facebook and Twitter.
